The Black Masc: The Origins

A powerful exploration of fatherhood through spoken, written, and movement workshops. Over a 9-week period, we invited participants to reflect on how fatherhood has shaped their lives and generate movements that serve as the offspring of these experiences.

Through these workshops, we aim to build a deeper emotional language for men, both linguistically and somatically, creating a better understanding of what it means to operate in the world as a male identifying person. Our hope is to shed light on the most important, joyful, and painful aspects of fatherhood, ask questions, share experiences, and find solutions.

The culmination of this project is a thought-provoking performance that uses choreographed movement to explore the complexities of fatherhood. By highlighting the true source of masculinity, protection, and preservation, we seek to promote a deeper understanding of the importance of fatherhood and its impact on all members of society. How by understanding the roots in which our fathers failed to grasp and rebirthing ourselves through love and support.

Join us on this transformative journey, and discover how the therapeutic somatic exercise of choreographed movement can help us build a better emotional language and awareness of the world as male identifying people.

400 Year Time-Lapse (ReMastered)

Experience the journey of a lifetime with our latest production, as we take you on a historical adventure through time. The Middle Passage into the Underground Railroad, the struggles and triumphs of the past, all the way to our modern-day society, are explored in this thought-provoking performance.

At the heart of the production is the concept of "Slaves or Waves." The first section of the performance immerses the audience in the world of enslaved individuals on a never-ending journey across the vast body of water that is the Middle Passage. Through technical elements like the sounds of an old wooden boat creaking and a rich blue light, the audience is transported into the eerie and melancholic calmness of moonlight. The movement's cadence ties into history's narrative, and we invite the audience to join us on this emotional journey, tugging at their heartstrings as space and time become lost in the story.

Continuing on, we explore the desperation and franticness of the Underground Railroad, which led to the eventual freedom of many. But we don't stop there, for the production asks the tough question: are we truly free? The themes of freedom and what it means to be free in our modern society are thoughtfully explored in the latter half of the performance, leaving the audience to contemplate the message long after the show has ended.

Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to take part in a journey through history that is as relevant today as it was in the past. Come experience the emotion and inspiration of this moving performance, and discover what freedom truly means to you.

400 Year TimeLapse (Origins)

Embark on a deeply moving and thought-provoking journey through history with our latest production. Based on the African slave trade, The Middle Passage, this powerful piece explores the narratives and tragedies that continue to shape modern-day white supremacy.

Our aim is to bring forth impactful storytelling and shed light on a portion of Black history that has been all but forgotten. We focus on the physical trauma and emotional stress felt by those who experienced the abrupt ejection from the slave ship and the perilous journey through the sea. The audience will witness the aggressive snatching of working Africans on the ship and their brutal discarding overboard, highlighting the harrowing reality of the slave trade. The imagery of two slaves floating in the water until they are swallowed by the ocean waves leaves a haunting impression.

In addition to the visceral physicality of the performance, we also explore the emotional and psychological trauma that lingers long after the physical pain has subsided. Through this, we aim to leave a lasting impression on the audience, allowing them to reflect on the impact of historical events and how they continue to shape the world we live in today.

The performance ends on a subtle Underground Railroad reference, highlighting the hope that was born out of the despair of the slave trade, leading us into modern day.

Through this production, we invite you to be a part of a moving and thought-provoking journey through history, one that is sure to leave a lasting impression on all who experience it. Join us as we shed light on the often-overlooked stories of our ancestors and strive to create a better understanding of the world we live in today.
